Managing Lymphedema with Therapy

Lymphedema Therapy Team
,

Lymphedema is the swelling of tissue caused by an accumulation of fluid that is typically drained through the body’s lymphatic system. Any issues or conditions that block that drainage, including lymph node removal or damage, can cause lymphedema.

Symptoms of lymphedema

Signs and symptoms of lymphedema include:

  • Decreased mobility or range of motion
  • Fibrosis, the hardening and thickening of skin
  • Heaviness or tightness in extremities
  • Repeated infections
  • Significant swelling

Targeted therapy of upper and lower extremities is crucial for patients with chronic swelling, pain and decreased mobility caused by lymphedema.
