Minimally invasive surgery

Minimally invasive surgery is a technique that allows doctors to fix bones and joints through small incisions using special tools and cameras. This technique is especially useful for surgeries like joint replacements, spine operations, and fixing broken bones, helping people get back to their normal lives more quickly. Minimally invasive surgery has many benefits, including:

  • Faster recovery: Shorter hospital stays and quicker return to daily activities
  • Less pain: Reduced need for pain medication after surgery
  • Lower risk of complications: Less damage to surrounding tissues
  • Minimal blood loss: Decreased need for blood transfusions
  • Smaller incisions: Less scarring and lower risk of infection

The orthopedic surgeons at Pascack Valley Medical Center use the Mako Robotic Arm for hip and knee replacement surgery. The Mako application is an orthopedic replacement treatment option designed to relieve the pain caused by joint degeneration due to osteoarthritis. Through CT-based 3D modeling of bone anatomy, surgeons can use the Mako System to create a personalized surgical plan and identify the implant size, orientation and alignment based on each patient’s unique anatomy. The Mako System also enables surgeons to virtually modify the surgical plan intra-operatively and assists the surgeon in executing bone resections.

Joint us for Joint Camp

If you are planning to have a total knee or total hip replacement surgery, we encourage you to join our Joint Camp class. The Joint Camp session was created for patients and their families to receive preoperative education to enhance faster healing and recovery after a joint replacement surgery. Joint Camp is a full overview of what to expect from the moment you arrive for surgery, the process during your stay at our facility and the importance of rehabilitation.

During this session you will meet with our nursing staff, physical therapy and case management to discuss insurance and rehabilitation. Joint Camp classes take place in our Community Classroom the second Wednesday of every month from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and the fourth Wednesday of every month from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.  You only need to take one (1) class and may bring one (1) guest.
